Luxury Luangwa in Zambia

Luxury and unspoilt wilderness in the home of the walking safari

Right at the bottom of the Great Rift Valley, in the western corner of Zambia, is the unspoilt wilderness of South Luangwa National Park. An untamed haven with an almost unrivaled diversity of wildlife, it teems with birdlife and its remote location means that it receives relatively small number of visitors each year, so you will feel like you have this unparalleled paradise almost to yourself. Zambia is also the home of the walking safari, a safe and utterly exhilarating way to soak up the sights and sounds of the African bush. In this itinerary, you will get to experience 3 different luxury camps located in some of the best parts of the park and get the opportunity to go on a walking safari, accompanied by an expert guide, encountering wild animals along the way. There is always the option of travelling by game vehicle if that is what you would prefer but trust us when we say that there are very few things that will make you come alive than walking on foot through the wilds of Africa!

Day 1: South Luangwa National Park

The local representative in Lusaka Airport will assist you with your flight to Mfuwe. Upon arrival at Mfuwe Airport, you will be transported to Mchenja Bushcamp (transfer/game drive through the Park of approx. 3 hour). A taste of sophistication awaits you at Mchenja: the five individually designed tents each have a bath as well as an open, en-suite shower and toilet. You will be able to do both game walks and drives and the wildlife viewing in this area is some of the best in the Park.

Leave camp early on foot or by vehicle and when you hit the dry Luwi River, start upstream towards Luwi Bushcamp, the river widens in this section and the Luwi’s white sands carve a dynamic route for which the Luangwa Valley is so well known. Arrival at Luwi in time for brunch. Depending on your time of arrival set out on foot to explore the local area, spend time at the nearby croc and hippo filled lagoon and get your bearings.
